The Non-Accredited Medication Management course provides essential training for people who support clients with medication administration in aged care, disability services and community care. It is ideal for Aged Care Workers, Community Care Workers, Disability Support Workers, Personal Care Workers, Respite Care Workers, family carers and others who assist clients with medication but do not require formal accreditation.

Participants will develop the knowledge and skills required to support people to self-administer medication and complete medication documentation in accordance with relevant federal and state or territory legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and workplace policies and procedures. The course content has been guided by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the WA HACC Program’s Medication Policy Framework and Guidelines.

Throughout the course, participants will learn about:

• Safe medication handling, storage and administration techniques
• Different forms of medication and modes of administration
• Correct dosages and following individual care plans
• The characteristics of commonly used prescribed and over-the-counter medications
• Identifying potential side effects and adverse reactions
• Accurately documenting and reporting medication administration
• Best practices for supporting client safety and wellbeing

Participants will also assist with providing at least two different types of medication using at least two different modes of administration and complete the associated medication documentation.

Upon completion, participants will have a strong understanding of safe medication practices, helping them provide better client care and minimise risks associated with medication administration.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) recommends that Medication Management training be refreshed annually to ensure participants remain current with policies, procedures and techniques.
