CPR Course Information
- Pre-course online learning (to be completed before attending):
The online pre-course learning and theory assessment is expected to take approximately 3 hours to complete.
- Face-to-face practical session contact time of 45 minutes.
This nationally recognised course is designed for individuals who perform general manual handling tasks in workplaces such as offices, warehouses, construction sites, industrial facilities and resource environments.
For workers in aged care, disability support, healthcare or community services who assist patients or clients, the HLTWHS005 – Conduct Manual Tasks Safely (Personal Care Workers) course provides specialised, industry-relevant training tailored to care environments.
Participants will learn how to:
- How to prepare for manual tasks safely
- How to identify hazardous manual tasks
- How to assess manual-handling risks

In many workplaces, workers perform tasks that involve lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects. These manual handling activities are a common cause of workplace injury, making it important to understand how to perform them safely. This course provides the skills and knowledge required to recognise hazardous manual tasks, identify risk factors, and apply safe manual handling techniques.
Students will learn how to prepare for manual tasks, apply appropriate control measures, and use correct body mechanics, posture and positioning to reduce the risk of injury. The course also covers how to recognise and report symptoms of musculoskeletal injury and supports safe work practices across a variety of workplace settings. This course aligns with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards, and industry codes of practice, including the Hazardous Manual Tasks Code of Practice.
This course is designed for individuals performing general manual handling tasks in industries such as offices, warehouses, construction, industrial and resource environments.
Please note: Individuals working in health or community sectors assisting patients or clients (e.g. disability support or aged care workers) may find the HLTWHS005 Conduct manual tasks safely (Personal Care Workers) course more suitable.

Course Requirements
An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:
- An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
- Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills
- Protective slip resistant footwear/safety shoes and comfortable/practical clothing must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment.
- To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
- Learning: Follow instructions and learn from watching others or getting helpful feedback.
- Reading: Read simple instructions, signs, or labels to understand how to do tasks safely.
- Writing: Fill in basic forms or write short notes when I need to explain something that happened.
- Oral communication: Listen to others, ask questions, and talk clearly to explain what I need or what I’ve noticed.
- Numeracy: Estimate amounts, measure simple things (like lifting weight or height), and understand basic numbers.
- Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources
- Online learning: Students must have basic digital literacy skills to navigate online platforms, complete assessments, and access course materials. Before enrolment, students should assess their ability to engage in online learning. Support is available where required. The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and associated assessment tasks.
- Pre-course learning: The online pre-course learning and theory assessment is expected to take approximately 3 hours to complete. These timeframes are estimates. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the online component in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and theory questions
- Face-to-face practical session contact time of 45 minutes.
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.
Students are required to complete a self evaluation against the following core skills as part of the enrolment process. This will allow your trainer to understand any additional support that may be required during the course delivery and assessment.

- Manual Handling Task: High to low movement (based on the student’s workplace environment and/or job role)

Documentation:
- Complete a Risk Assessment form
- Complete an Incident Report form
Theory assessment:
A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
